HIDDEN ON THE OREGON COAST
CONSCIOUS + INTENTION
Each MONOM garment is handmade in our studio with natural materials, and conscious environmental practices. Quality trumps quantity in our world, so we seek to show that high-end, durable clothing can exist alongside sustainability and intentional craft.
METHOD + MATERIAL
MONOM is meant to be worn in the real world. We avoid synthetic materials not only for the environment, but for our health.
The food we eat affects us, and so does the clothing on our skin. Non-synthetic fibers like silk, wool, hemp, and cotton let the body breathe. Our bodies react much better to natural materials and ingredients, so that's what we use.
Our dream is to develop a closed loop design + production process including :
- Growing our own garden for dye materials.
- Sourcing from small local artisans, makers, and farmers, when possible.
- Being ethically conscious by using re-claimed fur + leather in our designs.
PROGRESSION + OPERATION
Fast-fashion has its pitfalls, and the consumer + industry suffer for it. Mass production has led us to extremely un-sustainable products and business models.
With MONOM, we want to re-examine the way clothing can be made, shaking up habitual methods of craft + business, re-evaluating ourselves constantly, and participating in a new way of thinking about what we wear.
MONOM is a collaboration between couture designer Gretchen Belle and multimedia designer Sky Speir.
Our unique combination of industry knowledge, garment engineering, aesthetic sensibility, and progressive ideas fuel MONOM.
